The New York real estate market is expensive. As a result, in this project, two families decided to pool their incomes to purchase a property together. The aim of this design was to give each family enough private space for themselves, as well as provide plenty of communal spaces for them to share. The inspirations for the layout and aesthetics of the design were drawn from the occupants of the family members. On one side, there was a documentary filmmaker who was heavily invested in the ever-growing culture of Bushwick, and on the other, a restaurant owner and chef who only used locally grown ingredients. Due to the connections to the community and surrounding area, there is a large public aspect to the overall design, with a movie screening room in the basement, and community garden on the terrace. The overall aesthetic is an eclectic mix of objects collected during traveling and a connection to multiple different cultures, drawing inspiration from the borough of Bushwick.
